Located in the heart of medieval Leicester, the new BBC Broadcasting Centre successfully combines the demands of broadcast technology with a sympathy for the architecture and atmosphere of an historic city. 9 St Nicholas Place is a brand-new building which opened in April 2005 |

Central to the new building is a three-storey atrium with glass frontages at each end, which echoes the several shopping arcades in the area between High Street and Silver Street. The building has created a view of the cathedral which was previously unavailable. Here, the cathedral spire, currently undergoing renovation, is reflected in the glass at the Guildhall Lane end of the centre.

The building is surrounded by vistas which are reminiscent of several eras of Leicester's history. From the St Nicholas Place entrance to the centre is this view of Wyggeston's House in what was originally known as Highcross Street.

An atmospheric view of Leicester's Guildhall which over the centuries has fulfilled the separate roles of Town Hall, Police Station and town library. This perspective is normally unavailable to the public, being from within the BBC staff rest room.

Guildhall Lane, the Guildhall and, behind it, the Cathedral Church of St Martin's seen from the first floor of 9 St Nicholas Place. Note how the angular lines of both buildings are echoed in the projecting angles of the balcony of the new building.
