Searching for HARDEN family members who lived in Leicester from ? to around 1858.

Christopher HARDEN/ING a "non conformist" married Jane (Andrews?) in Leicester or surrounding region. He was a member of GallowTree Gate Congregational Church and died in 1838.

John Walter Harden, a son, b 1816 worked the Coal fields and became a prominent geologists in PA.

He married Mary Cook and a Selina Bacon in England and a Mary Ann Marcy in PA. He was horribly disfigured in a mining accident in Warwick where he was a colliery agent. The family sailed on the SS ENGLAND in 1866 (aka the Cholera Ship) and survived in spite of the 1200 deaths en route. After a lengthy quarantine in Nova Scotia they settled in Luzerne Co, PA.

Thanks,

Michael.

Please can you tell me who performed the opening ceremony at the De Montfort Hall in 1813?

Many thanks,

Eileen.

Hello,

A great site you have!!  Appreciate that I can put in a "request".  I am searching for any information on my paternal great grandfather. The data that I have follows:

William WHILES b. Leicester, Leicestershire, about 1850.  Worked aboard vessel "Saucy Lass" for 6 most, when 12 yrs of age - 1862/3.  Married 1) Unknown -when, who and where.  Arrived in Canada ? and in 1882 met and married - my great paternal side,  grandmother, Alice Collinson.  To them was born one child, a daughter -  March 1883 (Florence) and in Nov. 1883, William Whiles died from a work related accident.

Appreciate hearing from anyone, linked to or searching this surname WHILES.
I have been searching OVER 10 yrs, and have not found any additional data.

Thanks very kindly,

Good morning Leicestershire

I am a former member of the Leicestershire and Rutland Constabulary (1962/1966) prior to emigrating to Australia.

I am looking for any books relating to the history of that force. I recently read a wonderful book on the history of Leicester City Police and I was hoping something similar  may have been written for the county force.

Thank you for your time.

Dear Stephen,

I wonder, do you know when the Medway School in city of Leicester was built?

Thanks,

Pamela

VCH Leicester (1955) notes that the school was founded in 1886 as an Infant and Junior School by the name of Medway Street School. Any further information gratefully received.

Hi,

We are the current guardians of the Humberstone Park Café, and at present are running a campaign to prevent the council selling off this building.

This has prompted us try to find out more of the history of the Café and the Park. Any information would be grateful and we would also love  to see any old photographs if possible.

Looking for information about Groby Road Isolation Hospital and any remaining records. My mother was a patient with Tuberculosis (1955 ?)  I remember her being away for about six months.

Also does anyone have any information about Cacelloid, where my mother painted dolls' faces. These are vague memories.

Grateful for any help.

My daughter was in one of the old Isolation Wards at Groby Road Hospital in the early 1980s, so th
ey were still in service at that time.  The main hospital building has now been converted to residential accommodation but some Health Service functions still operate from the site.

I am researching our TAILBY family tree. I was told that there are some TAILBY graves at the Welford Road Cemetery and also at the Belgrave Cemetery. I wonder if it is at all possible to see some headstones via the internet/email?

I would very much appreciate any help. I am ever so grateful.

Would be most interested in obtaining some history on what was "Humberstone
Hall".

Hello.

Once again I am finding questions about Leicester. My Grandfather had several small embossed cards about deaths. One reads as follows:

"Mr. John Russell
Died May12 1866 at 72
Interred in the Leicester Cemetery May 17th,1866"

Are these cards common? How can I use this info to find more about John Russell which is my Greatx3 Grandfather . Would he be buried in a section with other family?

I am looking for any family of Sgt Leslie Raeburn Royston Alistair PARKER RAF who was a member of 31 Sqdn SAAF based at Celone ,Foggia Italy 1944 .

Leslie was killed in northern Italy in a Liberator crash 12th Oct. 1944 [in bad weather] while on a supply dropping mission to Italian partisans. His family lived in Lutterworth, Bicester & Raglan Street, Leicester, possibly early/mid -late 1940s. I believe Raglan St. no longer exists? Father was Alfred Parker. Mother- Mildred D.A. Parker [nee Plant] Possibly one brother Alfred George Parker.

There is to be a 31/34 SAAF commemoration event in South Africa in September this year to remember the 48 men who failed to return to base that night [12/10/44]  to which crew relatives are invited. I'm trying to find Leslie's relatives to let them know of this event. His mother corresponded with a SAAF crew member's mother in 1944 - before the plane was found.
